There are great tools out there for us to set up specific keyword searches to automatically receive notifications. Why spend countless of hours a week scouting through Craigslist when you can conveniently receive email notifications in your inbox?
The first app is called IFTTT (If This Then That). This is a free web-based service that allows users to create simple actions such as creating alerts when there is a new ad on Craigslist featuring your specific keyword. Sounds complicated, don’t it? It’s actually very simple. The best thing to do is sign up for a free account and dive right in. There are countless of other actions you can create to streamline your business and even personal life. They even offer a free app for your smartphone.
The second option is Craigslist itself. Not many people know this but you can set up specific keyword search functions on Craigslist, which is also 100% free! Just log in and type in your keyword in the search bar and on the right-hand side click the “save search” text. That’s it! You now created a keyword search function on Craigslist.
I promise that this will save you countless of hours. However, with every pro, there is a con. The alerts you receive are not real time, which means you will not receive an alert every time a new ad is posted with your keyword. It normally takes about an hour for both IFTTT and Craigslist to send you alerts. Some argue that receiving alerts an hour after an ad is posted is pointless but I believe it’s better than not receiving any alerts at all.
Also, the more keywords you have setup the more emails you will receive. Unfortunately, there is no way around this and your inbox will fill up fast with alerts. Just know that you’re saving valuable time and that you could be one step ahead of your competition. Trust me, I’ve found great deals using this tactic I just shared with you.
